Adelaide Hills Family Holidays
Something for all the family
If cuddling furry animals, eating chocolates, riding ponies and buying toys sounds like paradise to your kids, then visit the Adelaide Hills.
Loaded with family holiday ideas, many of the attractions are free and educational too. Wildlife parks and family-friendly farmyards are scattered throughout the region, giving everyone a chance to meet the animals.
Cuddle a koala at Cleland Wildlife Park. More than 130 species of Australian wildlife roam freely throughout the 35 hectare (86 acre) park. Self-guided discovery trails take you through native bushland and around wetlands.
Farmyards and furry friends
Child-friendly Hahndorf is another “must visit” destination, with more farmyard based attractions and South Australia’s only puppet shop, the Hahndorf Puppet Shop.
While in Hahndorf, visit Hahndorf Farm Barn. Kids will love meeting the animals.
A sweet tooth and cooking schools
There are shop windows full of sweets and farms to pick berries and buy delicious jams. Watch chocolate being made the old-fashioned way. Better still, taste before you buy.
A fairy tale comes true
All kids love to climb, which makes the Big Rocking Horse and toy factory at Gumeracha a must. The same goes for Birdwood’s National Motor Museum, where you might awaken some of your own childhood memories.
Everyone reads their child bedtime fairy tales. At Lobethal’s Fairyland Village, turn that story into a three-dimensional experience. Follow a trail past 17 small huts and listen to each one telling a famous tale, such as Snow White or the Three Little Pigs.
The Adelaide Hills, write your own fairy tale.
